Christina and Alex were only 18 when they met at a local pub on the west island of Montreal. Their next six years were filled with graduations, travelling and shared challenges until, on their sixth anniversary, Alex planned a spa day, travelling around Montreal and ending with a picnic of wine and cheese on Mount Royal.
He had Christina find a hidden Birks bag – and suddenly they were engaged. Eighty-five guests witnessed their marriage in Beaurepaire Christ Church and then celebrated with them at the reception at The Forest and Stream Club.
Christina’s sister, Coleen, (who was matron of honour) and her bridesmaid, Erika, sang “The Prayer” at the ceremony (and were unexpectedly joined in song by a three-year-old niece who decided to sing along with them!).
The lace flower in the bride’s hair was made from her mother’s wedding veil. The bride’s father used wood from his property up north to make aisle pieces with bible verses wood-burned by the bride. Her father also created a wood wishing well and guest book. Christina’s uncle carved a cake topper. The bride’s aunt and the groom’s mother assembled the table centrepieces.
During the cocktail hour, a close friend serenaded everyone and played his guitar, accompanied by a pianist. And the guests’ gifts of homemade jam were made by the couple and the groom’s mother.
The bride surprised the groom with his own cake, illustrating his three passions: the stock market, the Habs and his favourite drinks.
